Diabetes Vaccine Tests

A new vaccine that may eliminate the use of insulin injections for diabetes sufferers is being tested on patients at a Melbourne Hospital.
Tests have revealed that the insulin-producing cells in the pancreas are vulnerable to attack from "chemical missiles" called "killer T-cells".
It has been found that these T-cells can be destroyed if they are taken out of the body, put through a sorting machine and then put back into the body. The discovery was made by a Melbourne diabetes researcher, Professor Len Harrison, and a scientific team from the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research.
